Industry Forum 5th Meeting

The fifth EGEE Industry Forum Meeting took place on Tuesday 25 October 2005 in Pisa, Italy

Themes: Independent Software Vendors and Finance

Thanks to the Industry Forum speakers and participants, we had a very interesting and dynamic session with lots of questions and discussions.

The main points are :
  • All participants include Grid technologies in their offer
  • Speakers presented real customer cases (finance and stock exchange applications, distributed clash tests). They presented the results of the projects (optimization of the computing capacities, minimization of investments, time, and computing cost).

Participants also pointed out the difficulties they encounter when they want to convince their customers, especially at the CEO level. For instance, the following concerns were mentioned:

  • Security
  • Licensing
  • Legacy
  • Software maturity and reliability
  • Algorithms and applications "gridification"
  • Standards
Participants don't see the Grid as a universal solution, but as complementary to other existings solutions.
