DataGrid to EGEE: A Short Review

Abstract

The European DataGrid project, which started in January 2001, has completed successfully in March 2004 to considerable acclaim. This talk will review the history and successes of the DataGrid project and point to some of the challenges the consortium can expect to face during the EGEE project. The speaker acted as the project's internal technical reviewer for the lifetime of the project and is one of the few people who has read almost all of the project's deliverables from cover to cover!

Biography

Dr Mark Parsons is a leading international expert on Grid technologies and distributed computing solutions for business and science. He works as Commercial Director for EPCC, the supercomputing centre at The University of Edinburgh - a position he has held for the past eight years. He is also the Commercial Director of the UK's National e-Science Centre. His role within the University involves the establishment of collaborative projects with industry and commerce in a wide range of sectors. He is a board member of the Globus Alliance.
