The LHC Computing Grid Project - a Global Computing Facility for Physics

Les Robertson, CERN, CH

Abstract

The LHC Computing Grid Project (LCG) has the job of preparing and deploying the computing environment that will be used by experiments to analyse the data generated at the Large Hadron Collider accelerator being constructed at CERN. This includes support for applications and the development and operation of a computing service exploiting the resources available to LHC experiments in computing centres, physics institutes and universities around the world. The talk will describe briefly the goals and status of the LCG Project, and explain its relationship to EGEE.
