DILIGENT: A Digital Library Infrastructure on Grid Enabled Technology

The presentation will introduce the DILIGENT project. The main objective of this project is to create an advanced test-bed that will allow members of dynamic virtual e-Science organizations to access shared knowledge and to collaborate in a secure, coordinated, dynamic and cost-effective way. This test-bed will build upon the efforts of the EGEE project, and it will integrate the experiences and tools developed by a number of key leading European research groups in the area of digital libraries. The DILIGENT infrastructure will be demonstrated and validated by two complementary real-life application scenarios: one from the cultural heritage domain and one from the environmental e-Science domain.
Biography
Donatella Castelli is a member of the research staff of the "Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologie della Informazione .A. Faedo.(ISTI) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) since 1987. Here she has worked on formal aspects of database modelling and database design. From 1998 she is a member of the Multimedia Networked Information System Laboratory. Since then she has participated actively in several EU projects on Digital Libraries. Among these .ERCIM Digital Library-DELOS. (V Framework Project No. IST-2001-32015) and DLib Competence Center(V Framework Project No. IST-2001-32587), .Network of Excellence on Digital Libraries . DELOS. (VI Framework Project No G038-507618), Scientific Co-ordinator of the DILIGENT project proposal (VI Framework Project No 004260, under negotiation). She has co-designed the ERCIM Technical Reference Digital Library (ETRDL) and now she is leading the development of the OpenDLib (http://www.opendlib.or.) digital library service system. Her current research interests include Metadata Models and Digital Libraries.
