JRA2 - QUALITY ASSURANCE

One of the priorities of the Enabling Grids for E-science in Europe (EGEE) project is to deliver a high quality system. A programme of quality assurance, therefore, is a crucial part of the project.

Everyone recognises that it is commonly accepted international business practice to comply with quality management standards such as the ISO 9001. The EGEE Quality Assurance activity is inspired by those international standards and will provide a structured approach to quality management, as well as provide effective tools for describing, implementing and evaluating Grid services.

Through Quality Assurance it will be possible to ensure that standards and procedures have been established and adhered to for the duration of the project. The services provided by the EGEE project will be evaluated and measured, clear procedures defined and services, such as documentation and user support, monitored. Quality Assurance will take many forms including the verification of documents, participation in reviews and audits, ensuring corrections are made where necessary and analysing data, such as user satisfaction surveys and enquiries.

From the word go, Quality Assurance will cover all of the activities. Quality Assurance is a continuous process where constant measurements and refinements are needed in order to improve.

One of the initial steps will be to define with each of the activities the standards, procedures and metrics relevant to that activity. Quality materials provided for DataGrid and LCG will be utilised and adapted to fit with the EGEE project.
